[Letter from Graeme Wilson about Scientology]

Mail On Sunday, 9 August 1998

NIGEL DEMPSTER was wrong on two counts in his column on July 26.

Firstly, he attributed a quote to L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, but it was actually George Orwell who wrote: 'I have always thought there might be a lot of cash in starting a new religion.'

Secondly, the unconstitutional and discriminatory actions by the German authorities have not in fact extended to an outright ban and there are many branches of the Church of Scientology in Germany where our parishioners are actively practising their religion.

Over the past two decades more than 35 courts in Germany have held that Scientology is a religion.
